    Factory head unit dead?

My factory head unit does not work, and I wasnt sure if it was just dead or if there was something with the wiring. I pulled the head unit out theres one set of loose wires from the head unit, with nowhere to plug it in, and then a plug with nothing to plug into it. There are no loose wires on the dash when the radio is pulled out either. My buddy said that the wires are aftermarket and the guy who owned the car before me was messing around with it. Im not sure how to go about fixing it, or if I should just take it to a shop and let them deal with it. what do you guys think?

Neither of those are used. The loose plug is not used on the e30........or at least not in any e30 I have seen, and the plug on the back is for the optional cd changer, that was trunk mounted.

Have you tested for power? Show a better pic of the colors, from what I can tell you are missing a plug.

I do have a known-good late model deck and CD changer for sale if yours is toast, but lets make sure it actually is dead first.

If you don't have a testlight, go buy one. WalMart carries on in the auto section, it's $5.

Don't use a meter, testlight only. Trust me on this.

If you don't have your ETM downloaded, do so now. http://www.wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

In there, in a sea of murk, is all of the proper color codes for everything, plus a fuse chart.

        Cheers,
        Luke

Download the ETM, your wires are listed, look under "radio"
