Does polk audio repair momo subs?

I have an older polk momo 10" that just gave up the ghost,I think the voice coil is shorting.
Does anyone know if Polk audio services these,it has such a pretty beast of a basket and motor cover that I hate to just throw it in a scrap metal bin at work.

I would imagine so.. I would say if you have any doubts call Polk themselves and you'll get a for sure answer.

What you are talking about here is "reconing" a woofer.

The voice coil, diaphragm, spider and surround are all installed with glue, it's just one big assembly. Put the voice coil in, use shims to align it, glue down the inside and outside, then put the dust cap on. Takes a pro about 3 minutes, no big deal.

So, it's not a hard job at all, but finding the exact right combo of parts to make it work is a absolute raging pain in the dick. Finding the correct OE recone kit is your best hope, that way it fits right out of the box.

Here is the issue: all of these Chinese made woofers are thrown away if they break under warranty, and aren't repaired, ever. It is cheaper to just give you a new one, especially when shipping from China is involved. That means there is no such thing as spare parts, period.

Back in the day, sales reps used to stop by once in a while and use a sledgehammer to break up the blown speakers that were exchanged under warranty. They never took them for repair, just destroy and exchange.

IMO, if it's not a $500 woofer, just toss it if you can't find an OE recone kit for it, but good luck with finding a kit for any chinese made woofer.

Thats the challenge, that's where someone who has been reconing for years can mix and match parts to come up with something that fits and works...but again, it's just not worth it.

Sorry to not have better news, and I am not saying it's impossible, you may even get lucky and find the right parts...but chances are slim.
