Interior lights stuck on after installing new radio

I installed a new head unit in my car and I'm not sure what I've done with the wiring but something's screwy. At first I connected the radio power cord to just the red/green wire, which made the radio only turn on when the headlights were on.

To fix that I spliced the grey/red wire with the green/red and hooked the radio power wire up to that . It being bright and sunny out I didn't notice the interior lights were now mysteriously on. I thought I was a genius and my radio was all settled. Then I go to start my car later and the battery is dead. Also my rear defrost switch is now lit up (in both on and off positions) with the car off and the headlights also off. This seems *somewhat* possible since the interior lights and radio are on the same fuse...but it's still weird. What have I done?

EDIT: Car is an '87is with premium sound. One aftermarket stereo was came out and another aftermarket one is going in.
