    Burning smell/smoke

smoke/burning smell coming out from behind the cluster/vents. Heater was on that morning but smell/smoke didn't start coming through the vents until I got to my friends house and the car was idling.

Removed cluster and didn't see any burnt insulation on any of those wires.

All connections to alternator/starter/battery are tight.

    All fuses are ok.

I know the e34's are infamous for burning blower motors, is this the case for e30's as well?

My car is at a friends house so I'm trying to solve this problem to avoid a tow.

Yes just happened out of no where, no signs at all.

There are no signs of burnt insulation either. Or at least nothing that I saw in the areas I was looking.

Haven't tried testing the accessories yet.

Will try that once I get home.

What I found was weird, when I had the auxiliary fan on I would hear a relay clicking underneath the steering column. Every wire under the cover looks ok though.

It could be the blower motor, I put in a used blower motor that was seized in my e30 once and it made the burning smell your describing. Does it only smell when the blower is turned on?

make sure you have all the right amp fuses in the fuse box. Something tells me something got hot. Got a burning smell from the cluster (fuse #21) when I had the wrong amp fuse in there....cluster fried as a result.
