AC Not Working, Switch is Hot to the Touch

Just got a 1987 325e auto from a friend and the AC isn't working, though it was confirmed working a few days ago. With the car running, I pressed the AC button on the dash and the air remained warm. After a while, the switch became hot to the touch.

Now the light for "AC On" doesn't even come on. Still no cold air.

Other than swapping out a new switch, any ideas? Is there a common fault in them? Any testing diagrams for the pins?
