    E30 cluster/stereo/13button issue

Recently bought a 87 325ic and decided to check out why the cruise wasn't working. I pulled the cluster to make sure the plug didn't come loose in the back of the odometer.

Anyway, the wire that plugs into the green plug at the bottom of the odometer had a lot of slack so I thought it might be unplugged. I followed it behind the radio and hvac controls towards the glove box and under the carpet behind the glove box.

I wiggled the wire to see where it was going and it disappears under the carpet. Anyway, after this wiggling I noticed that the radio asks for a code every time I turn the key to off position and back on and the 13 button display reset.

Now, extra motivated to figure it out I went back to those two wires wiggled again and now neither one turns on at all.

My question is - what would cause this and where do I look for these wires??

Okay - now for an update.

After yesterday, putting everything back together after giving up, the 13 button display works and remembers what time it is on power off. The stereo does not operate at all.

Fuse 21 blew - but fuse 12 is fine. My sedan has an aftermarket headunit which has a fuse built in that I have to swap sometimes when I have a battery issue. Does this stock head unit have the same ``feature''?

What else would cause just the stereo to go out?
