Hey all,
I have this problem with my '91 325ic that I need help with.
I swapped out the engine for my spare rebuilt M20, and converted the car to a manual at the same time. I used the original engine wiring harness with the "new" engine, and did the simple unplug and replug automatic to manual wiring under the dash and for the reverse lights.
My problem is that the ignition seems to not be in the circuit anymore. Meaning, turning the key doesn't do anything. The ignition cylinder and switch worked fine before the swap, and the key still turns normally to all positions, just absolutely nothing happens. Almost as if there was no battery connected at all.
The battery is a good new battery that I am using from another E30. I've double checked the fuses and the main harness to engine harness connection. My car does has a HOFCO dealer installed alarm system, but it looks like it was disabled long ago by a previous owner.
What should I check to figure out why I'm not getting any power through the ignition switch? I'm going to take off the steering column cover and see if the switch is getting power from the battery. Any help is much appreciated!
