looking for a HU that plays from a USB stick

Does anything like this exist? If so, what stereos should I look with that have this capability?

I purchased an old Sony deck in the late 00's that has USB but only plays certain apple products thru the USB port :rippedoff:

    thanks in advance
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

Pretty much every stereo these days does that. I've got all my music on a 32GB flash drive and it's all I listen to.

the thing is, the deck I have (CDX-GT440U) doesnt' take any of the 8GB flash drives I have. I keep getting the "not supported" message (files saved as MP3's)

On these lists of compatible devices, nothing is available anymore

sucks since I bought this thing in 2010, and already it's useless. I mean, I sure as hell ain't gonna start burning MP3's again:rippedoff:

        i bought this recently:

i love it, eff CD's. you can color match the backlight. I ran a USB cable into a blank next to the hazard switch. if you can deal with it not perfectly matching, its worth a look.

^How did you mate the USB into the blank, I am looking to do the same. If you have any pics. please post them.

"USB Input: The receiver's front-panel Type-A USB input can be used for plugging in a (MSC) Mass Storage Class or MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) type USB device. The head unit can play music files stored on the USB device in MP3, WMA, or AAC formats (up to 320 kbps). When playing a USB device, the display can indicate track/album/artist/genre number, track/artist/album/genre name, elapsed playing time, text information, or clock. The head unit can recognize up to 128 folders with 500 tracks each when connected to a USB Mass Storage Device. A sliding cover protects the USB input when it is not in use."

That is on Sony's website about your HU. If it can handle 500 tracks, then the size of the drive is likely not the issue. I'd try format your flash drive and putting the music back on it. Format it with a FAT file system instead of NTFS and see if that works. Also make sure the music isn't in more than 128 folders (many transfer programs create a folder for each artist).

There, top right. I rearranged everything up there so the USB drive wouldn't get in the way. The piece I ordered:

I cut it out with a dremel, and then filed it smooth with a bit of chamfer to ease entry (lmfao). I also painted the screws black with Wurth trim paint.

Both the aux and USB ports are rear mounted. I originally had got a mountable aux and had that in the blank where the switch is now, but ended up moving it to the glovebox. I don't use it anyway, I Bluetooth everything.

A note about Pioneer headunits, they don't have power antenna leads like most other units. They tell you to use the amp signal lead. What that means is that every time you turn on the radio, the antenna goes up, no matter what input you use. I couldn't take it, thus the switch in the other blank. This will prove to be a problem when I add an amp in the future.

^After looking at the pic of the USB cable in the Amazon link you posted, it makes sense. I didn't know that type of cable with mounting screws existed. Thanks for the explanation. "Chamfer" lol.
                Looks good!!

My headunit has the dual rear mounted USB ports, and yeah bluetooth FTW.

As for the amp signal lead, you could splice the power for amp turn-on before the antenna switch.
