Going nuts over the strock radio code

Just picked up a 1987 sedan. Stereo says "code." I have the owners manual with the code.

Apparently, I entered-in the code wrong the first few times.

If I read the manual correctly, am I now supposed to drive for an hour straight and then re-enter the code?

Occasionally, I hear a few reminder beeps when driving with the stereo in the "on" position, even though I have only done short trips.

I'm really not wanting to run to the dealer for this.

the ignition needs to be left on for over an hour. that means driving or sitting in your driveway, the car wont really know the difference.
