    e30 Mood lights

Has anyone ever tried or heard of someone putting mood lights into a e30? I was thinking about this, possibly putting two LED's into the rear view mirror like I've seen done on some other bmws. Also, what about painting the dome light covers amber/orange, would this look dumb?

I was thinking about doing this too. Should be pretty simple to wire up.

i've been thinking about this too, i like the way they look in the 5ers. you can't see the LED unless you're looking directly at it from underneath, but provides a dim subtle glow over the console.

not a big fan of ricey interiors but i kinda like this idea

Bryson did this in his Henna, it was the shit. Became 4x cooler when you blew smoke through the beam of light.

so i think i may go ahead and try the mood lights, but a couple of questions.
1)Would it look better if I put them next to the crank for my sunroof, or on the bottom of my rearview mirror?
2)Either way, does anyone know off the top of your head if there is a power source in the check panel that only works when the key is in the ignition/turned on?

i've been thinking of that, and the maplight mirror already has power from when i wired it, but i'd hate to drill into a rare/cool piece like this mirror :\

czag - if you look online for a maplight mirror DIY how-to, it should tell you where to get ignition-only power (thats what i have for my mirror)

The maplight mirrors werent that rare so dont worry about it to much. Its a 70 dollar part here on the boards if you absolutely hated it and wanted it back to OEM quality.

I had that mood lighting. It was a little too bright for my liking, so i took it out

What bulbs are in the maplights? Couldnt you just put red bulbs in there as a replacement as opposed to retrofitting them?

Okay I'm sure I'm not the only one here wondering what the heck you all are talking about. I've heard of mood rings and underglow befoer...interior mood lights sound like a mesh of the two.

Does anyone have pictures of this mod done to their car? I would be very interested to see what it looks like.
