SOLVED: ended up being the black wire that runs from the MCU to the cluster, was loose in the connector above the glove box.
Hey I recently bought an 87 325is. When I got it the Tachometer and fuel economy gauges didn't work. Some other things related to the SI board and that battery weren't working so I decided to get that all fixed. Sent my cluster off to get fully fixed and refurbished, and they tested and confirmed the tach and FEL gauge were working out of the car.
When I put it back in the car, they still don't work. All other gauges work fine, 13-button OBC works and even tracks mpg correctly, everything else related to the SI board works. I've checked and replaced all fuses, replaced the coding plug, and all other electronics in the car are working fine. I've studied the wiring diagrams, visibly checked the wiring behind the cluster, the wires running to the OBC, the wires under the dash, the wires in the glove box, under the steering column, and don't see anything obviously corroded or unplugged (although I get a little lost at the wiring under the steering column/glovebox) so I'm running out of ideas. Anybody know anything else that could cause this, or have any suggestions? Thanks.
