Keyless entry + alarm for a vert?

It's my brithday today and I want to treat my car to some new things so I was thinking since I am going to be in columbus that she should be safe from bad people haha.

So please recommend a keyless entry+alarm that will be good for a vert. I want something that will sound if someone is cutting my top off but leaving the windows alone (happened to a friend and never sounded)? Also I don't have $500 to spend but I would like a pager too..but isn't such a big deal.

    Thanks

I've got a Viper alarm system on my car. it came with a motion sensor that will set the alarm off if someone trys to put theyre hand inside the car if my top is down and will chirp a few times if someone walks too close to the windows. Clifford systems are nice too with the pager.

How much did your viper cost you?

I've never heard of clifford..how much do those usually run?

      Thanks

I got my viper system from Mobile One, and was a complete rip off at $400 installed. I helped my friend install his Clifford, he got his for $120 with a "hook up", came with remote start.

Well I don't want remote start so that should bring it down a little and $400 is way more than I want to spend. I am going to go check them out tomorrow.

You said you had a motion sensor, where did you put it in the car? I was discussing it with my dad and he was wondering also. My 98 A4 had several but those where in a lot of places

          Thanks for the recommendations.

I have no idea where the motion sensor is... lol. when I got my car back, I forgot to ask the installer where he put it, I have been looking for it since. I'm pretty sure its somewhere in the middle of the dash. He installed the indicator light in the extra button slot next to the emergency and rear defrost buttons. Yeah like I said, 400 for the alarm was a total rip off, I got it done probably just because I had just gotten my paycheck and wanted it done asap.

I sell a basic alarm for $50, plus shipping. I sell a remote start system for $120. Both have dual stage impact sensor, blue LED, 2) 5 button transmitters. These are pretty typical of internet pricing...

Install is pretty straightforward, but I have been installing alarms since 1982, so I find it very simple.

I sell and use Scytek alarms www.scytek.net

These guys have been OEMing for 10+ years, started doing retail 2 years ago.

              Great product, cheap.

BTW...go to www.DEI.com to see Viper, Clifford, etc. They are all the same, made in the same factory in Taiwan. I use Scytek because they are a prime manufacturer. Somehow, I trust them more because of that.

Having had remote start in virtually all of my cars since about 1988, I cannot imagine living without it. I have window rollup on my E30 as well. I love the convenience!

An alarm will provide basic security, plus lock and unlock your doors. It is up to you if you want more than that.

Feel free to call me at 541-747-1171 if I can help.

Do you think I would get ripped off going to Best Buy, Car stereo One, or TAS?

Typically, DEI product is not available to purchase uninstalled. Typical labor is about $175 or more for your application. retail on the parts alone is typically $125...so define "ripped off"?

They are a retail establishment. When you put a dollar in their till, it pays many people. When you put a dollar in a small shops' till, it generally pays the owner only. They have a far bigger profit margin than someone like me.

So, it is your chioce to go to a big shop and pay retail, or buy from a small shop.

No, I am not trying to tell you that I don't want to buy from you, I might in a week or so. I am not the best with wiring and things so I don't really trust myself to put it in. If you have a solution for this please share.

                        Thanks again

Cool either way, as long as you get what you want. Only an offer, and a general price idea...not necessarily trying to sell anything!

I will trust the guy who is aware of his limitations far more than the guy who thinks he can do anything...I bet you would do just fine. It isn't all that hard. Especailly since you have help available here. And not just me, there are several people who have sucessfully installed their own alarms.

I am sorry if I didn't put my opinion on the subject clearly.

Let me see if I can do better.

I feel the small independent shops are what this industry is all about. I think you will get the best in service, best in price and best overall satisfaction by going to a small, owner-operated shop.

You asked if you were going to get ripped off by going to Best buy, et al, and I thought I put it out that you would be better off going to an independent.

I apologize if that didn't come out well. As far as buying from me, frankly, it is no biggie either way. If you buy an alarm from me, that is one less I can sell installed, here. Then I have the hassle of ordering more, etc. That is not to say that I don't want to sell you whatever you want...just simply that it is no big deal either way. Cool?

On the other hand, should you decide to attempt your own install, whether you buy from me or someone else, I will be glad to help you in any way I can.

Oh, and no, I will not come to Ohio!
