My defroster button illuminates when you have the lights on like normal, but when you depress the button, the light turns off. Anybody have a fix or reason?

1. Download electric troubleshooting manual, trace signal.
2. Get multimeter and check for voltage.
3. Find where the voltage drop occurs and replace what is broken
