Yesterday I installed an engine harness on my 89 325i manual. The one I installed was from a 90 325i automatic. the only differences I could see between them were the 3 auxiliary relays attached to the harness and my old harness had a metal reciever at the ecu connection that the new one didn't. If i read my bentley right that pin is at #24 on 55 point and is used as a main ground.
Im not sure where the fire started, i havent uninstalled it yet, but it seemed like the smoke first started near the auxiliary relays. The fire started when i tried to start the car, which cranked but didnt start. Then it spread down the harness but i stopped it at the firewall before it went through.
Sooo, does anybody have any ideas as to why the fire started? I thought that this harness would work fine. I was very meticulous when i installed it to get the wires to the proper locations. I didnt see any parts with bare wire exposed.
Also i need another harness so if anybody has one, pm me or reply. thanks.
