    Wiring a car with DSP?

Ok, the stock MID crapped out on my mom's 95 740i, which without it the radio won't function. So I wired in a aftermarket CD Player mainly just for the time function as my mom needs a clock in the car for her job. So just today I started to see if I could get any of the 12 or so speakers the car has to work with a 4-channel amp. I found diagrams for the stock amp, and started wiring everything up. I've gotten the front and rear door woofers to work off the amp. But even at max volume on the headunit and full gain on the amp. You can just barely hear any sound out of the speakers. Any ideas? I'll probally just end up buying 4 5.5" woofers and run all new wires instead of trying to use the stock speakers and wires.

OK, so the output of the 740's amp has 3 pair of front speaker outs, 2 pair of rear speaker outs, and a pair of subwoofer wires (if she has the rear deck subs)

You MUST build crossovers if you are going to change amps.

You can change decks without this added hassle, just wire speaker positives ONLY into the amp, plus the remote turn on...all will work great.

So leave the negatives wires of each speaker plugged into the factory amp? Her car has 2 tweeters and 2 woofers up front, then 2 rear door woofers, and 4 rear deck subs. Right now I completly removed the factory amp, and bolted a 300 watt 4-channel amp in it's place. I found the diagrams for the 18 and 25 pin at the amp that has all the speaker wires, and just cut the + and - for the front and rear door woofers and connected those to the amp. She dosn't care about sound quality just as long as the radio works and sounds decent, so getting all 10 speakers working is no big deal.

I was referring to leaving the stock amp in. You can wire a different head unit into the BMW amp easily.

Changing out the amp means using aftermarket crossovers, otherwise even talk radio volume levels will blow speakers.

I was just thinking.. 12 speakers off 1 300watt 4 channel amp is really pushing it Ely. Especially with a set of subs. What brand 300watt amp is it? Is it 300watt Peak or 300watt RMS? My guess would be 300watt peak which means it probably does more around 175-200 watts x 12 speaker = not enough power IMO. Even for factory speakers.

My Caddy had a 12 speaker set up that had a 500watt peak JVC 4 channel for 4 mid speakers & 2 tweeters, the rear & front deck speakers direct to the headunit and a seperate 400 watt Power Acoustik 2 channel amp for the subs. And that was considered just about adequate.
