I'm sure you could get it to work that way. Just a little bit of probing around to get it working.

With my tape adapter the stupid thing always ends up thinking its metal, then starts the horrid grinding noise, otherwise i would try this

So Live, I wanted to thank you for this writeup. I just did it this weekend to hook up my XM Skyfi 1. The cassette adapter only had two wires, (red and white insulation) but the ground was several thin strands running outside of the main wires insulation. I hooked it up per your instructions and used a power adapter from myradiostore.com. Works excellent, and no wires hanging out of my dash!

I never listen to FM or tapes anyways, so I just slid the tape carriage switch back to simulate a tape being installed. The motor still runs, but it's very quiet since there's no tape installed.

The Skyfi 1 face is silver, but it's pretty low key so it doesn't look too bad in the daylight-at night, the display color matches the dash lighting perfectly!:)

so i have a stock cassette unit as well, and i apparently have a much more different setup on the inside. here are a few pictures of what i have.

has anyone done this successfully to this head unit? if so i would REALLY appreciate some help!

i looked closer on the unit, and saw this. if this is it, i'm set!

              also what is this connector?

              thanks, joe.

Hey Chris, I know it's an old thread but I wanted to see the write up and it's not working. Do you have a new link or a copy etc.

                Thanks.

The original link appears to be broken. Do you have an updated one? I'd like to try this.
