    Alarm wiring help.

Going to install a Viper alarm to my 90' 325i. Need help to identify where is the wire to hook up such as where is the lock and unlock wire(what color) I know I should able to hook everything under the steering colum. I did it to my 87' 325ic many many many years ago. I think I have a wiring sheet from DEI at that time.

Any one can help or share the info for me??

    TIA

    Ron

    12volts: red + ignition harness
    Starter: black/yellow + ignition harness
    Ignition: green + ignition harness
Power Lock yellow/blue - drivers kick
Power Unlock green/blue - drivers kick
    Parking Lights+ gry/wht and gry/yel light switch
Door Trigger brown/purple - dome delay relay dkp
    Trunk/Hatch Pin brown/black - at trunk light
    Tachometer black AC diagnostic connector

You do remember that you have to use relays on the door locks, and that the 2 seperate parking light circuits have to be diode isloated.

    Luke

Thanks for the help on my parking lights. I fixed my no turn signal problem which was due to a faulty wire at the ignition column.

If the door lock relays are built into the alarm unit, do we still need to use external relays?

Since the BMW circuit does not rest on ground, and the relays require about 900 mA to run, few alarms' outputs will swing the necessary current to trigger the relay (factory BMW lock relay).

If your alarm has onboard relays, no external ones are necessary.

I forgot to mention that the turn signal issue you had was not likely to be the alarm: you connected to the parking light circuit, so the turns should not have been effected.

Good to see you got 'er fixed.

                Yes.

I found that whole site quite helpful when I installed my car alarm / keyless entry / remote start. It'll tell you how to use relays and give you color codes and stuff too.

No, 1 amps will burn out after a few months. Use a 3 or better (like 6A, sold at Radio Shack) and it will last for years.

Really? I've never heard that. Mine have lasted for years :-\. Maybe I'm lucky...or you're unlucky.

Your alarm is ONE example of it working correctly...keep in mind he installs alarms probably almost every day and has probably seen dozens of examples of it NOT working correctly...you tend to pay close attention when a customer comes back with a malfunctioning install.

That was my point when i said I'm lucky or he's unlucky. I wasn't calling him a liar or anything.

No, no one thought that...its just that having done like 10 or 12 E30s in just the last year (hell, more like 20!) and literally hundreds, if something is weak, shit happens. The lights draw about an amp, so the likelyhood of failure is pretty high with the diode being rated at 1A.

The bigger ones are like $1.59, so why not?

I wish someone (Luke :)) would make an alarm, complete with a harness or two that plugs directly in. I hate all the loose wires under the dash of my current alarm that the PO did.

Looks like shit, but I'm fearful of doing my own install/removing this one because I'd hate to remove something and not get it back like it should be.

Thanks. My gut was saying 3amp but w/ so much mis-information out there best to ask the pro...
