Added OEM Premium Speaker in the rear deck, only tweeter works

    Hello,

My 89 E30 had non-premium sound system, but had Sony headunit installed by previous owner.

I replaced my rear deck speakers to OEM premium speakers, but only tweeters work, no mid-bass, no matter how loud I play music.

Is this because my non-premium sound system doesn't have amp or my wiring is not correct?

Can I just simply add OEM amp to solve this issues?

    Please advise.

    Thank you!

I don't think you can add an OEM amp to an aftermarket stereo. Or, you probably could but it wouldn't be worth the trouble. I would say it's a wiring issue. Here is a pic of what looks like the stock wiring on a Premium sound rear speaker. Is this how your's is wired up? One wire to each side of the mid with the other mid connections running to the tweeter?

Thank god, R3V was getting boring since the ginger kid wrecked his car. - Stonea

      Thanks for the reply!

Yes, just like that picture, wires were never been modified, still OEM.

Seems like one of my mid is bad, since my other one just works fine..

Oh is is just one side? Yeah just flip the speakers side to side and see if the issue is with the speaker. If it's just the one yeah it's probably a blown driver. I mean these drivers are all pretty old at this point if they are OEM.

I have a convertible, if I had these I would buy a decent set of components and replace the stock speakers.

The premium speakers have a built in crossover (see the loop of wire around the woofer? and the cap?)

Pop into any car stereo store where they do installations, and they will sell you a bass-blocker for the woofer and let you know what you need. (find an independent shop, not Best Buy or Car Toys)
