In my quest to get my driver's side door to lock from the outside, I searched and found out about the driver's door actuator, so i was playing with it and decided to consult my wiring diagram. Now, i know for a fact that my car has been hit in the left front side. I have new grills, a calypso door painted white and all that. Well, after consulting the diagram it says that there is an intertia switch inside the central locking system. Is this true? How could i go about resetting the switch to make my locks work again?

Inertia Switch and Central locking

Typically inertia switches are used to do something safety related in case of an accident. An Alfa Romeo that my parents used to have had an inertia switch that was supposed to shut the electric fuel pump off ( a transfer pump I assume) in case of an accident so fuel would not spray out of possibly damaged fuel lines. The only safety related feature I could see in electric door locks would be to use the switch to open them in case of accident to facilitate rescue workers getting occupants out of the car. I would be very surprised if they used the inertia switch to lock the doors or disable the central locking system. I would guess that the issue is unrelated and unlikely to be resolved with the inertia switch, especially if you can lock the car from the passengers side or the trunk. Perhaps the wiring was damaged in the crash, not hooked up properly with the new door, or the switch in the door lock cylinder is screwed up.

Modern cars have inertia scwitch that cuts fuel pump too, but I believe that e30 inertia scwitch only unlocks doors.
Does anyone know if it must be reseted after crash, as the modern ones?Current:
