    E30 Gauge Cluster

Hi I have a weird problem with my E30's Cluster where the tachometer is stopping at 4500 instead of 6k. Its a m10 engined prefacelift car.
It used to have the clock and econometer but I got a Cluster from the scrapyard in better condition that has a Rev Counter.
Anyone got any ideas on why it does this.

Ah yes I know about that chip but the new cluster does not have a slot for it. I checked it out now and I suspect it used to be in an newer model.
Is it possible maybe to hook the rev counter up to another signal.

Your best bet is to to follow the wiring diagrams

My car is a 84 but my wiring is 85, give 83 a try seeing your car is carburetor model. I also changed my cluster like 2 years back I used a cluster from a 89 318i m40, everything worked fine only difference the heat gauge sat in the middle on operating temperature, originally with my old cluster it sat quarter mark. All the m10 e30s I came across sat like this.

You did get a correct cluster cause I doubt m10 e30s came with coding chip in South Africa
