Advice on New system

If I were to decide to upgrade my entire system, what would you guys recommend considering that I dont want to spend too much, somewher in the $500 range. I don't know that much about car audio systems but would like to get a good quality system for me. I also want a decent sub, probably a 10". Also, I already have a subwoofer amp. I don't need to blow anyones doors off or anything. I just want clear quality sound. Thanks

OK, plug your deck into a Memphis 16-XO3 crossover. Front, rear and sub in, front high, front mid and sub out. No rear! True 3 way operation FTW.

Use whatever you have for a sub amp to run the appropriate impedance 10" M1 subwoofer, in the appropriate box.

Use a Memphis MClass MCA2004 to power the stock Premuim Sound front speakers...but no rear at all.

You want to use two channels to run the front tweeters, the other 2 channels to run the front mids. Just a sub and fronts...you will be amazed.

If you have more money, you could replace the fronts, but it is not necessary. It does help a bunch to pull the tweeter out and remove the cloth that BMW puts between the tweeter and the grille. If you have not heard the Memphis MSync speakers, they are amazing.

BTW, I am a Memphis dealer, but that is not why I am spouting this combo. This just happens to be good cheap chinese gear that actually works. There are HUNDREDS of name brands made in the same factories...it is the same shit no matter what name is on it, see?

System design is all about the design. I personally like my music really clear. I would rather listen to 3 walmart amps run from good signal processing into shit speakers than an assload of power running fullrange.

In other words, seperate amps and multiple electronic crossover points sound much better (to me) than a freeking huge amp running passive crossovers ever will. Getting that particular point across can be a bit tough, though. You have to hear it to believe it.

Ask James Crivellone. He was astounded sitting in my car, then even more amazed when he saw what cheap shit I had in my trunk!

If I were to do this, where would I put the crossover and speaker amp. Since I am very Ignorant in this subject, how would this compare to getting a full blaupunkt system, hu, speakers, sub amp, and sub.
I have an old alpine 3522s amp, I think it is 80 watt?

30x2@4 Ohms, 40x2@2 Ohms and 80x1@ 4 Ohms

What kind of pricing do you have on the memphis crossover? I have Alpine Type-R compenents for the front, and a 12" infinity SVC (4ohm) sub, powered by a 200 W monoblock. I also have a boss 2 channel amp, it's decent, but I was never happy with the passive crossover.

With the setup you're proposing, a 4 channel amp is needed, right?
