cant take out old head unit...wtf?

whats up guys... i'm looking to take out my jvc headunit and putting in a kenwood. i am having a lot of trouble taking out the jvc though. it is supposed to just slide out right?

anyone have an easy method of doing this? it is wanting to stay in there tooth and nail, and it wants to take the rest of the surrouding trim/heating control unit and obc w/it.

uhhh, i dunno how jvcs come out but generally you need the small metal keys to insert into the cage that holds the stereo in the dash. you insert the keys and the deck slides out. might have to go to a shop that sells jvc to have them pop it out for ya. well actually any shop SHOULD be able to do it, the chances of a non dealer having the right tools will be slimmer though. IMO

i was using two flatheads and it was still wanting to take everything with it. oh well, guess i have to go out of my way and go to jersey one evening, get this head unit taken out, and then go out with the boys

the head unit locks into a cage

the cage is held inside by little tabs that hold against the trim/panels to prevent it from sliding out

with a slim flat head you can flatten these tabs

Tabs are made of the bendable metal, once you find the tabs apply a little force and they will bend back straight, then the cage will slide right out.

                    1. Remove Faceplate.
                    2. Remove trim ring around face.
                    3. Insert "keys" on sides of deck. (feel for click)
                    4. Slide out.

If you do not have keys, all installers have TONS of them. Ask a pro at a shop if he would give you a pair. Be kind and courteous!
