is this too much speaker for a midbass

came across this slimline 10 incher from ED. i had planned a pod for a 6.5 in the door but came across this. i have a 4 inch and a tweeter, would this be a good option for the midbass or is this too much speaker/bad choice.

the other choice is a CDT 6.5 which i don't have a link to at the moment.

both the CDT and ED have a mounting depth of 3".

With a moving mass of 110gms I do not believe it has an Fs of 25.5, but on the other hand the Qts is a very low .29, so helps explain their numbers. That 86.7db sensitivity bullshit tells me that the suspension is as tight as hell, mechanically. The Xmax tells me that too...just don't allow this thing to move much and all will be fine.

I would say 120db or so would be possible given 300 WRMS, running 60Hz~200Hz. It would make excellent kick drum and bass guitar. That is where the nice light moving mass would really shine!

Looking at the numbers, I would guess if you could find about 1 cubic foot per woof, they would make some excellent midbass. With our cars being so shy of midbass in general, a 10" would not be a bad idea.

Where do you plan on putting them? I have heard E30's with subs in the rear sides, below the rear quarter windows. Not bad location...but definately not in the trunk.

I wonder where they are pulling their numbers from.

9.3mm of excursion is plenty IMO. It's nice they give out the specs like that, but like you Luke, I can't believe a resonance that low. I don't know 10"s that well, so I can't really talk. Unfortunately, you can't tell how a speaker sounds from specs.

I'd say the combo of the 10cm, 25cm and tweet would work well as long as you have the ability to match everything up (electronic eqs and the such).

i was toying w/ the idea of fitting them into the front doors (map pocket area), but that would probably rattle a lot. then still use a sub, i dunno really wtf i am talking about thats why i am asking.

Use the EU-700 since it was actually designed as a mid bass

they sound incredible btw, soon I will post pics of my full ED setup

but the EU is so deep, not sure it will fit properly. i may use the 6.5 but i'm checking my options.

an 8 is more than enough for a midbase.

If its too deep then just cut a ring out of MDF to space it out a little.

Trust me the EU will make a much better mid bass.

i'm not disagreeing w/ you but where are you putting it. if you are somehow fitting that in the kick panel i'd love to see how. between the hood latch and glovebox its damn near impossible to get anything done in that area.

You can't get midbass from that location no matter what speaker you run.

I would go with boxes in the rear sides.

Personally, since I am running tri-amped, I am doing a set of KEF 6.5" midrange/midbass drivers in .7 cu.ft. underr the dash on either side...but talk about a PITA!

                      so let me ask this.

do i keep the 4 inch in the door or move it to the kickpanel? i'd think keep it in the door but make a box for it.

now is placing my midbass behind me going to throw my soundstage out of whack?

should i still run a 10-12 inch sub in the trunk or will the 10's for the mids be enough?

how do i get the best sound w/out doing something ridiculous
