Alright I've done a quick search, but I want some recommendations for subs 10''

Mine crapped out on me. I'm not very audio oriented so I don't know too much about how everything works and what not. I have a JL W3V2 running on 250w amp. I've checked all the wires and the last test I haven't done is the ohm test, which I think wouldn't matter much anymore.

What are some good recommendations? Price isn't a factor at this point so something in a fairly descent price to the high end stuff. Also could you please list the price range the item can be as well when you do recommend a product. Thanks!

the nice thing about that sub is that you can set it up to be free-air.

I am putting a Alpine Type-R in the vert soon. I like the sound of them. They are alittle more powerful to get through the extra layer of vertness.

if you want a incredible sound buy crossfire db3 10's , or Mmatts , those are the 2 subs i sell and recommend to anyone , incedible sound with the right setup , you can put crossfires low end sub on a crossfire 1000D (true power 1375 watts) and hit so hard with 1 10 or do it with 2.

get a ohm reader and check it , for all you kno that sub could be good still , you wont kno for sure until you check wit a ohm meter

My recommendation?

Quit looking at brand names. Figure out what you need in performance terms, then find a woofer that fits those needs.

If you want a real suggestion, tell me EXACTLY what amp, deck, front (and or) rear speakers, and what other amps you have in the system. Describe the box with perfect measurements, post pics, and list your top 10 favorite CD's.

If you want a "name and number" recommendation, I am gonna be using a Lightning Audio S4.10.VC2 (MSRP $249.95) One of the things I really like about this woofer is how the voice coil attaches to the diaphragm. This is a pretty brutal sub, but quite musical. I am going to run this in 2.2 cubic feet, but tuned kinda low at 32Hz. I cut out the bottom of the holes where my stock speakers reside to allow ports to come through the factory midrange locations. I am going to run a Crossfire 1000D on bass, so I should have about 700WRMS on this 2 ohm load.

I built a sub under the back seat of a 2000 F150 extra cab the other day. I used a Memphis M1 10 SVC sub in (get this!) .86 cubic foot. It was running off of an old PG 2 channel amp. For using under 1 cubic foot, it was absolutely amazing. Decent clarity, amazing output. Tuning was kind of high, like 37Hz...everyone that has heard it has been amazed.

Anyway, the point of all this yammering is that asking "what woofer do I want" is just begging for disaster. You had what is supposed to be a great sub...I say they are just overpriced crap. I say it is all about the engeneering. You should hear the sub in my Astro! It is a Wal-Mart $40 woofer in 2.3 cubic feet...trust me, you would absolutely LOVE to have the quality AND quantitiy of bass that the van has...it fucking rocks.

Anyway, if it turns out you want Audiobahn, I have some which are a mighty impressive sub too. I also have some Crossfire subs, and will be ordering some Exileproduct soon. Excellent stuff, designed by real enthusiast guys that used to design for Phoenix Gold. Good shit, mang.

I saw that the recommended sealed box size for this sub is only 0.6 cubic feet. What makes some speakers need larger boxes than others? What happens when you don't use the correct size box for a sub?

Erik, keep one thing first in your mind: No one in the industry cares about any of this shit. Sales are the #1 priority, NOT sound quality. Lies outnumber truths 500 to 1. MP3 has destroyed sound quality. (ask any stereo salesman if they have ever even HEARD of HDCD? DVDa? SACD?) The industry is all about the loud, the boom. Can't tell a synthesiser from a bass guitar? Yeah, man...those crank. One note bass? Wow...that hits hard. See my point? Below is an actual scenario I have seen many many times.

A: " Dude, those hit hard" ummmmm...yeah.

Decent Chinese made stuff, decent pricing. My fav is the "Reference" due to its sound quality. Not too hot in power handling though. Perfects sound terrific, but need tons of power.

Ummm...free air is what gas stations USED to offer? If you want to learn more about "Infinite Baffle", you need to learn more about how a woofer works and WHY no one sells a woofer made for that application today. The primary suspension a woofer has it is it's box. No box (basically) = no suspension. Flappy, farty, very low output. Shitty power handling, even with a "subsonic" (infrasonic) filter. However, very very low frequency output is available. 4) 8" is what I would do in infinite baffle. Find an 8" sub with a 2.5" voice coil, a Qtc above .65, and a Fs about 40Hz. Combine 4 of them in an insanely tight install...great bass, unless you ever want to hear rap bass.

Marketing department LIES!!! Yes, you can, but since the entire output of the woofer is below the resonant frequency of the box/woofer combo, efficiency suffers HORRIBLY, thus the need for HUGE power. Shitty, "tubby" bass too, IMHO. Oddly enough, a box of 1.3 cubic feet is too large! (unless ported, then it is OK, but a bit small)

Erik, that is all about the suspension. There are a few basic variables. Fs, Q (both mechanical and electrical), Vas, and Xmax will tell you what you can do with that particular driver. If you want to learn a whole bunch about this, find a copy of the Loudspeaker Cookbook. Do keep in mind that there is nothing more dangerous than a man who has read one book!

What happens when you don't use the correct size box for a sub?

Here is the basics on that. Smaller boxes handle more power, but also more distortion and will not play as low. Until the point that the woofer is attempting to play below its resonant frequency, then output goes to hell.

Larger boxes generally play louder, clearer and far lower.

Next on the debate list is Ported vs. Sealed. As you may know, I far prefer ported, as long as they are well designed. Any woofer with a Qtc under .38 and a resonant frequency (Fs) under 30Hz, with a moving mass (MM) under 150Gms makes me happy...good fucking luck!

Since virtually no woofers on the market today hit those marks, I do what I can. Remember that marketing departments rule the world of ICE. Small boxes sell better, so the entire industry has changed so we can put 4 12" subs in an Escort...and still have room for a stroller.

So here's my setup that I have currently right now.

-Polk Momo component front speakers
-JL 250/1 amp - to power the sub
-JL 300/2 amp - to power the components
-Nakamichi cd-500 deck

I listen mostly to everything and anything really, but I don't want crazy bass or loud stuff and heavy hitters, but I want nice bass something similar to a creative system for a desktop pc.

Suggestion now is more welcome :)
