My e90 has a subwoofer under each front seat. My basic sound system is really pretty good considering it's factory... anyway, anyone attempt this in the e30? If so, what components did you use?
Under seat subwoofers?

You could make a fiberglass enclosure that took up the entire area under the seat, but it would be such a weird shape that I don't think it would end up sounding right. I could be wrong though. Luke, have any opinion on this?Comment

Nah. Under seat area is just too small for any really useful bass, front or rear.
On the other hand, that heater box is about 2 cubic feet!
If I wanted a sub in an E30 coupe with nothing in the trunk, I would go for the side panels under the rear side windows.
Huge area, relatively easy fab. Couple of decent 8" subs ported, or 2 10" sealed.

Here's what I'm talking about.

These units actually provide a very nice, tight sound. The clearance under my e90 seat seems very, very small- not any bigger than under the e30.
I have a cab so I don't have many options other than the trunk.Comment

my 87 325iC was already butchered, so I slapped this 12" in there, duct tape it at first and sealed what i could with expanding foam, removed all that now, and installed a new set of 12's, made steady with wooden rings and resealed ever thing else i could., not perfect but it gets the job done.
Totally stealth, can't bee seen at all and 100% usable rear seat ;)

Why can't you cut the floor out just inside the 4 bolts that keep the seats in. Then make the box closer to the ground and then have the woofer flush with the floor of the car...solved.Comment

Yeah, I was kinda curious too.
I used to rock Turbo Sunbirds. I ran a 1/2 cu.ft. box under each front seat. In one car I had actual US made Infinity 6.5" midbass drivers (pure fucking sex, let me tell you) and the other got a pair of Fosgate "Audiophile" 6.5" woofers, back when rockdick was worth a fuck.
Both cars had the most amazing midbass. Neither had actual bass worth a shit without the sub, but still cool.
I had to cut a hole in the floor of each car, build a sheetmetal box and have that welded in, then a MDF box inside of each.
Massive PITA, let me tell you.
I just cannot imagine a reason in hell to bother even thinking of a way to pull that off.
