late model deck into 86 325e

I've tried searching but no real luck...I have an 86 325e and I'm trying to put a stock tape deck from a late model e30 in it. I can't get it to work...in fact the only thing that even lights up is the volume button and the words anti-theft. Can anyone give me a little help? Thanks, Matt.

I have the code, but normally, at least w/my old radio, the display would light up and flash 'CODE' but this one doesn't...so I don't know...

It means you have power wires switched up. Just because the volume knob and the words anti-theft lit up doesn't mean the unit is getting power, it just means the instrument lights wire is properly hooked up. Double check the power wires. switched, constant, blah blah
