    keyless entry light hookup Q

does anyone who has a keyless entry installed in the trunk have it hooked up their lights? I had mine hooked up in my old e30 but when I installed in my current one I can't figure out how to hook it up to my turn signals so they blink when I lock/unlock it. When I do hook it up it causes all four corners to blink when I put a turn signal on.

Another idea I had was to hook it up to the side lights? Could I tap into one of the rear bumper lights and cuase all four corners to light up?

    TIA
    Ryan

relays are needed i would assume

edit: i hope all my lights dont blink with a TS cause i hooked up my parking lights to be on with the car, lol i gotta go check this out

what wires did you hook into?

I hooked into the turn signals in the rear light cluster...if all your lights blink with a TS you should notice it in ur cluster...at least that's how I found out :D

and I didn't have a relay in my old eta and it worked just fine...I'd really like to get it hooked to my parkin lights which are hooked to the city lights :D

        2) 5A diodes do the trick.

Then I shall do my best to provide direction, sir.

Background breadcrumbs, a trail to follow, follows:

For whatever reason, the beerheads in Germany have a split parking light design. I know there is some rational reason, but it does not translate to US thinking (or lack thereof)...so left and right are seperate, connected only at the switch.

A "Diode" is an electrical "one way check valve" meaning that it allows electricity to flow in one direction only...and that direction changes depending on whether it is negative or positive you are controlling!

Doides do other shit too, so if the word "Rectifier" pops up, don't panic.

The two 5A diodes (available at most car stereo shops or electronics supply store that don't suck ass) should cost you about $3.00.

If you connect them both to the (typically) white "Light Flash" output on the keyless module, you will be able to connect both sides of that split parking light system to that one wire without issue.

You may have to experiment to find which way passes +12V, then make a simpe "Y" with the two diodes and you are done.

            HTH,
            Luke

sweet! thanks for the explenation! I actually had this idea when I first hooked it up and noticed the problem but didn't know there was a way to actually control the flow of electricity! Diodes to the rescue :D

Let me ask you this then since you seem knowledgeable about e30 electronic or at least electronics in general... I only have to tap into the rear turn signals to get both front and rears to blink....is this true for the parking lights as well?

if you want to run some wire up to the headlight switch itd be easier and wouldnt require diodes, just tap them into the right wires, which slip my mind right now, grey/yellow and grey/red maybe, not sure id have to check my bentley

i DO NOT KNOW(FUCK i HATE CAPSLOCK) what would happen if you connected in the trunk: I do not do it there. I do all of this crap under dash, so I have access to everything I might need, plus far easier to do such things as remote start, locks, light flash, door pins, etc.

I also do a sweet little number to keep the radio on after you turn the key off...shuts off the deck when you open the door.

you need to wire up my car..... my radio resets everytime i turn off the car...lol

I'll have to look into the whole thing some more...maybe I'll try just runnin all the wires up front, or just relocate the whole damn thing...

You could tap into the parking lights instead of the blinkers. This would keep you from having to run diodes at all.

hence my question above of "I only have to tap into the rear turn signals to get both front and rears to blink....is this true for the parking lights as well?"

I have had "turn signal-becomes-emergency flashers" issues doing that on some E30's...I cannot remember which ones though.

I understand in Europe, they came with a different switch allowing parking lights to be used separately left or right, depending on how you are parked(?).

I diode all of them to make life easier!

yeah...I think its so that if ur parked on the curb you can turn the street side light on to make ur car more visible to idiots who aren't payin attention....but i could be full of shit

ryan give me like 30 with your car and ill fix your radio

edit: also if you look at my post from before that will work guaranteed(provided you get the right colored wires), it will make your parking lights blink not turnsignals
