So I removed the original antenna and installed an aftermarket unit. The new one comes with a bayonet plug but the cable in the car has a screw on type connector. Is there an adapter I can buy or should I cut the connector and somehow rewire the old cable to the bayonet.

Never have found one in the aftermarket world...you might have better luck.
I just cut and solder.

why not just get an oem e30 antenna, best looking imo, they go awayYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Well I just drilled out a plastic piece at the end of the antenna cable and inserted the bayonet connector. Reception seems to be fine. I'll test it out if that doesn't work then I'll cut and solder. I don't have the money to buy a new OEM antenna.Comment

I hate radio in general, so antenna choices to me are kinda meaningless.
I just bought a new grommit for my sweeties car, and am rebuilding her stock antenna.
What is wrong with yours?
