    Seeking rewire info

Well, I won an auction on ebay for a clarion DB336MP for $52. Now, I need to install it. I installed a few stereos back in my high school days, but haven't touched them for years. So, my knowledge on this is a bit shallow. BTW - I don't plan to build a great system, just upgrade the head unit. So an aftermarket amp etc does not interest me at this time.

Anyway, I have an 88 325is with the premium sound. I plan to use the stock speakers for at least a little while, and I need some input on rewiring. I know I need to get rid of the amp and rewire using approx 18-16 ga speaker wire. The stereo is a four channel (4x50). My questions are as follows. With four channels and six speakers, how do you wire it? Do I use one channel for each of the rear speakers and one channel for each side (footwell and tweeter) in the front? If so, when more than one speaker is wired to a channel, is it wired in a series or parallel?

Last question - I understand the stock speakers have built-in cross overs. Will rewiring affects those in anyway? In other words, I assume the cross-over is built into the speaker, not in to the stock wiring at some point. Right?

Thanks in advance for the input.

You can wire two speakers into one channel via parallel or series. With parallel you'll reduce the resistance, with series you'll increase it. I believe the front two speakers (tweeter and mid) are wired in parallel, so you'll only have 4 channels.
The rewiring should affect any crossovers that the speakers have. I'm assuming that they're just resistors. However, you'll want to double check and make sure that they do have them. You don't want to run a full range signal to the tweeters.
