    A little edead...

Since I did my m30 swap, the interior noise from the head/tranny was more than stock. We had to remove the stock tranny tunnel sound deading, and so I picked up some "edead" (a dynomat type product)...Worked wonders.

If anyone is courious, I used only 9 lbs of it. Being that it is on the floor, I don't really care about the weight.

The car *feels* stiffer. Not by it's handeling, but by the impression it gives you going over bumps in the road. It made the car feel a bit newer, and quited down the tranny whine ALOT...

Also ran some speaker wires and (not pictured) some rca's...(well actually shelided professional microphone cable, it has two conducters inside a heavy sheilding. I'm going to see if I can run both L and R down the cable with out too much "cross talk" or the like...

    Anyways, on with the pics...

$1/sq foot, Also, there is a promo code somewhere (google for it)

I *suspect* that it is NOT as good as dynomat as far as noice reduction. But Dynomat is about $3.80 a sq ft - so in critial aeras I just double and trippled it up (passanger side foot well aera was where the sound was mostly comming from)

I used a wallpaper "seam sealer" - a small inch wide roller with a handel to really adhear the it to the metal, also use mineral spirts to clean the surface. I've had it the hot sun for a few day before I re-installed the carpet, just to see what 120 degree heat would do it it, and it doesn't move an inch.

Also, not something you can really "remove"...it's on my car to the bitter end...

I've used their blue liquid stuff right after it came out. The v3 I believe. Its pretty cool and definitely a LOT cheaper alternative.

Now *that* is the seal of approval I needed!!!

Speaker and "rca's" cross over the stock wiring - but they do so at right angles...

Shit, man...you guys are gonna make my head swell.

Is you install complete? Any noise issues? I need to find a real option to Dynamat...I hate stocking that shit.

                  Rock on George!

I did the same thing with the Canare quad microphone cable, on my 914s stereo. I just soldered the RCAs on and heat shrunk around every connector, and one around the jacket too.
It worked great. But I do suggest using Canare, not Mogami cable. The reason is the Mogami if you crush it to hard with anything breaks easily. The Canare is really tuff stuff.
I just know this stuff because I used to be a sound engineer.

I come from the video/film world, some I had new mic cable around. The stuff I used is Belkin. Install will be done with-in the next ten years at the rate I'm going.

                          Yea, yea, sorry...Belden.

To cover the floor pan (all of what you see) is 30 Sq feet. With it doubled up around the tranny tunnel and foot aera...

It applies VERY nicely - can't stress that enough.

What you can't see in the pic is that it's made up of 6x8" pieces (approx) every peice cut to match the aera it's going onto by hand, to match the contours of the floor pan.

Just plan on ripping your first piece out - All it takes is one try to install the stuff and you *get* how it likes to go down (insert x-girlfriend joke here). You have to get very creative on the shapes you install - then always be looking to see where the scrap pieces go. It does NOT like rounded shapes. In curved aeras, you just have to use smaller shapes.

Have a *very* clean surface, and press down HARD to really get every into the metal shape. If you screw up and it wont follow a concave curve, slice it with a knife, and let it fall into the curve - come back with a narrow peice and cover the gap.

I believe the stuff works best not as a *sound blanket* - but rather it *bonded* to the metal to dampen it's vibrations.

Oh, one last thing - use a STRONG roller - somethign out of wood, the plastic ones flex too much. You'll be putting about 15-20 lbs of pressure on every sq inch if you want it to look as nice as mine...;)

                            edead is a great product.

For those who don't know of Elemental Designs they make their rounds in sql comps quite frequently, very nice stuff.
