i work at circuit city, and we can order monster cablefor cost, and i would say it might be even less expensive then the home depot stuff. or it was, someone said they jacked the price.
monster cabnle and all major retailers jack the price to make money. more so than any other product in the stores.
Can you please put together a coherant sentence so that we can understand what it is you're trying to convey to us?

*I posted the review to show that outdoor AC Extension Cords can be used as very high quality speaker cable.

*Once again there is nothing in this thread about the crappy speaker wire that Home Depot carries.
    sorry in english

the quality of workmanship is similar between the two. the actual cost of monster cable may even be less than that of the extension cord. i know this because i can order monster cable direct though the circuit city employee website. fifty dollars worth of it can be bought for pennies on the dollar at store cost.
the performance coming out of the extension cord, is because it is essentially the same quality anyways.

it wasn't a real important post anyways. just trying to reiterate the fact that monster cable, tsunami, and most other brand are inflated by the seller. they are in price wars over there speakers, but make the money back by selling 500 dollars worth of cable to wire a car.

I'd agree. The profit margin on speaker cable is very high. The markup is outrageous (that is until you get into the very high end stuff such as Kimber Kable and such). Monster Cable itself is way overrated; with the mid to low end Monster Cable, you're paying for nothing but the brand name.

Because of the low voltage that speaker wire actually carries, i mean LOW LOW, 16 gauge is fine for most car-length speaker wires for most power situations. MASS MILLIONS of watts is another story. For longer runs, 12 gauge is better, but like some peeps have said, don't waste yer money on some store's phat mark-up. I think I need to go to Home Depot and make me some sweet cables. :P

Here are pictures of the speaker cables that my friend made out of the Home Depot outdoor extension cord. He covered it in a nylon braiding that is meant to go around home-made speaker cabling and signal cables.

That looks really nice, I'll have to make some of my own cables.

I was thinking about it, what does everyone do with the third wire? Just cut it off and leave it be?

Also, where can you get speaker sleeving like that? I search on google and couldn't find any.

Yeah, you just don't use the ground wire.

He got it at Fry's Electonics in Wilsonville, OR. Do you have Fry's in Bend? The stuff was $10 for a 10 foot long piece.

Nope, no Fry's. I wish we had one. We don't even have a Bst Buy or Curcuit City. Just RadioShack and a few local car audio places. I wonder if they would have it? I will have to call around.

I'd check a home audio place. The sleeving is for people who make their own signal cables.

LOL, we used that stuff at my old job every day... it's an elastic nylon sleeving used to protect wires from chafing and such... you can pick it up at most electricians' supply stores (read: NOT RadioShack).

Ok, cool. Didn't think RadioShack would have it either way, I just wasn't sure what exactly it was used for. Thanks all.
