    13 button OBC Q

I'm putting in a 13 button OBC right now.

I pluged in the yellow connection into the guage cluster and the green one into the OBC. Then I tested it out too see if it worked. Well the buttons illuminate and it seems like there is very very dim color that is added to the screen, but other than that there is nothing.

I'm pretty sure this came out of an "i" car, and mine is an "e". Does that have anything to do with it or would that just mess up the readings?

If its not that, then I'm guessing the only thing it could be is the bulbs need chanced, correct?

I did plug in the temp senor (or at least i think i found the right one, same color wires). I'm also guessing i don’t need the "black box" as the green connector plugs into that and that is for the code function which i don’t want to use. So not having that wouldn't affect anything, correct?

I thought there was a "brain" that controlled everything. The wiper/turn signal stalk that has the control on it also plugs into it so you can control everything.

The wiper/turn stalk is not necessary.

On strictly eta he never mentions the black box at all. He says the green plug goes plugs into the fuel pump connector. From other pictures I’ve found on e30tech, the green connector (the other green one, besides the one that plugs into the obc) goes into the black box. So if you don't need the CODE function, do you even need this black box?

Or is this really the brain, and totally necessary?

        my experiences

i've done the retrofit w/out any probs. sounds like the backlight is out on your obc. if you look on the side i believe on right hand you'll see a white square you can pull on to get to the back light. yank it out and see if one of the bulbs are burnt.

the black box is not the brain and is not necessary its only for the code function for the fuel cut off for antitheft purposes-

other than what you described there should be no other connections you are missing. the power is fed from the inst cluster to the obc and also the info as well.

lemme know if you have any sp ?'s i'll see what my feeble memory can recall.
