An answer to a question nobody asked...

So today, when I was re-hardwiring my V1 (onto a switched power source so now when I get pulled over everything will shut down with my ignition) I got a little over-enthusiastic and hardwired in my G-Tech to the same source. I'm not really sure there's a point to this, except that it frees up my lighter plug and eliminates some cockpit clutter. I ran the wires down near the window vent and tapped into a switched power source behind the radio. It makes me feel sort of lazy now, not having to plug anything in or switch anything on...

Make sure your not drawing too much power through that 1 wire.

That wire was already doing something, now you've added not 1 but 2 more things drawing power from it.

Dunno if those gizmos already have it in their wiring, but for things like my sirius tuner and the like I put a radio shack fuse holder in-line on the power wire with one of those mini-fuses that you find in a cigarette lighter plug adapter. Just don't want to burn the car down.

Got both of those things covered, thanks for heads up though! It's just an extra radio lead, so I'm not worried about overusing it really...

Generally, electronics like that don't draw enough amperage to even worry about. I would check it out though.

Really, all should be fine unless you start blowing the fuse for that circuit. The fuse is gonna blow before the wire melts, so...

Fuck I've had this Bel STi for 5 months now and I still haven't taken it out of the box. Thanks for making me feel even lazier, asshole.

*Trying hard not make a crack about Canadians*

Although, now that I think about it, the entire time I was in Canada last year my Bel 960 (this is before my V1 days) stayed in my glovebox. The band I was in consisted of a few ex cops and they constantly told me stories about confiscating and destroying radar detectors. I figured it was easier to just use my quasi-celebrity status and talk my way out of a ticket... :D

Oh yeah, V1's are crushed under cop's feet daily in Ontario. I also have one of those, but it only comes out to play when I'm driving south of the border.

The STi however, is the only detector that is invisible to all Spectre tings. I'm stealth mounting that bad boy...eventually.

That would be fun! Where would you mount it?

I've been mulling through all sorts of ideas: from hacking up the check panel, to a new central domelight assembly, to a 3rd speaker grill on the rear deck, to a simple rear ashtray mount...

Not sure on my plans yet. I'm also facing the dilemma of not mounting it at all, since I'm parking my E30 in a few months for a new DD. I'd just use the cig lighter for now, but even after ordering Bel's "European adaptor" the damn thing won't work in my car. Stupid E30 and its weird socket.
