This question to those who know stuff about audio equip. I personally don't know anything. This can be a potentially good discussion for newbies in audio. Basically, what should I look for in terms of: HU, speakers. my deck gave up on me (built-in amp) b/c when i put in CD, it will play it, but the speakers are silent. I checked connections... it was crappy pos anyways. I kinda like clarion DXZ 375MP it's in my price range and it looks like a good match w/ e30 dash. I know nothing about speakers & amps (As in who makes what quality) I mostly listen to techno, rap occationally. I would like to achieve bassy, crisp sound. the base is fast (most of the stuff i listen to is ~140bmp). Nothing too expensive. If you have any questions about my requests, post up. Otherwise, just chim in and I'll take your advice! Thank you!

speakers should not be more than $100. Keep it stock, I don't wanna go "show" just some nice sound. Weight... well, I think that would be regardless of what I would get anyways... thanks for your input thought!sigpicComment

You want great sound, cheap?
Buy a CRX.
No such thing as good cheap sound in an E30.
Your best bet? a single 10" in a ported box, a 4 channel amp running it and the front "Premium Sound" speakers using aftermarket crossovers. No rear speakers at all.
If you shop carefully and have box building skills, you could do this for about $350 using all new stuff....assuming you alreay have a set of premiums.

I can prolly do ~$700 for the whole setup (installing all by myself)
I should correct myself. For the speakers, I ment $100 for one set... not for all 6!! LOLsigpicComment

I make certain that the entire output of the subwoofer is 100% sealed into the car...but I prefer the sound of ported boxes. I have the ports run into the car through the stock rear speaker location...since I have no rear speakers.
Currtently running a single Exile XP12. Could not be happier.
Here is a shot of the woofer in the box. I wanted the face of the woofer to be vertical so when I do the window in the back of the box, the magnet is paralell to the window

Here is how I did the porting, which is HUGE compared to how normal people so ports. Larger surface area needs longer tubing to achieve the same tuning...so 2 X 4" ports in my 2.4 cubic feet is about 30" long.

Almost anyone with a decent tablesaw and some skillz can build a box...give it a try!

damn!! that's pretty nice! I wonder how much it weights? Did you only use glue? what kind? Sealed cheap sub if you just want some bass and not a lot, i would suggest maybe a MTX 5500 10". But i am MTX for life, my sub has never let me down for the money i paid for it, cheaper then most, great sound quality, and very forgiving. I also am a pioneer fan, so i only use pioneer decks, but for speakers i would suggest you go with some component speakers and a 4 channel amp. If you really want, buy the MTX 5500 10" in the ported box, sold out at most places and cost more then the 5500 15", and i know why it's so expensive. It is almost as loud as my 7500 15" but it has great sound quality.Comment
