    Subaru Subwoofer

So I started thinking this morning for some reason about Subaru factory sub woofers. After a little searching, I found out that from 2002 on, you could get a 120watt powered subwoofer in your Subaru. The unit is an 8x10x2 inch unit with an adjustable high pass and adjustable gain.

You can get them new for $150, which is expensive for what it is, but if you could pick one up in a junkyard for cheap, it might not be a bad setup for those who are just looking for a little more then factory.

I personally am going to try and find 2 of them and put one under each seat (which in my MG should be MORE then enough).

They accept two channel input and are normally wired to the rear speakers in a Subaru. With a set of components up front and two of these under the seats powered by a decent deck, you could have a fairly decent setup for cheap.

I'll post a follow up after I hit the junk yard this week.

Andrew, I have actually used one of those off of one of the WallyMart $50 2 channel...it was completely useless, IMO.

    but I might be spoiled...

Well, I heard/felt one in a Subaru before and it wasn't bad. It wasn't great, but if I could pick one up for under $50, why not?

Under $50, as in $40 under, fine.

Otherwise, a sheet of MDF is $25 and I know you Bend guys have pawn shops, I know you could find a decent 8" sub for $25 and have real bass that actually sounds good.

You should some time go find a cheap ass 8" sub, build a box that is .7 cu.ft, then run a 30" piece of 4" ABS out of the box (like 29" of the tube outside) just to blow your mind with how cheap good bass can be.

Hey, you coming to PDX saturday? If so, bring those transmitters!

Yes, that would be a good way to do it, but I don't have anywhere to put a sub box and I would need to buy and amp and have room for that too. These would be under my seats and out of the way. I know they wouldn't even compare to an 8" and a box, but I just want more bass then I have now. And really it would be temporary until I REALLY decided what I want to do.

Oh, and I might be there Saturday with Josh. We will see.

If it was bigger box and ported it would be much nicer!

We have some decent things at work that were made a long time ago. I'll see if I still have them at my desk (I'm thinking I may have thrown them away though.

Well, went to the junkyard and they didn't have a single 2002 or later Subaru. WTF? Oh well. I guess I will have to go with a REAL sub.
