    Alternator Whine!

I ran my interconnects down the driver's side. Where am I likely picking up this interference from?

Do you have resistor plugs? Are all ground points at one source close to head unit? Sometimes upgrading system will highlight noise. What is different now from before in your setup?

I had a stock system before.

My deck is grounded with the stock ground wire from the OE deck.

The amp is mounted in the drunk and is grounded on the floor of the trunk. Very good ground on the amp - scraped away paint.

Ken, grab an ipod with a RCA cable output. Disconnect the RCAs behind the deck and plug in the ipod to see if you have noise then.

What RCAs are you using? What amp? Didn't you have ADS before?

            Hey Luke I have a PH-15 amp

Old school ADS PH 15 sitting in my 1974 2002. Never even blew one fuse. Is it worth selling? I used it originally as a 6 channel amp briefly. But the last 10 years it has been set up just using 4 channels bridging them down to two for more power.Lucky if I drive the car 4x a year . It is a garage queen.

Yeah, I still have the a/d/s/ PQ10 hooked up.
I'll hook up my iPod this weekend and check it out. What if the noise is still there?
I'm using some monster cable RCAs that apear to be pretty good quality.

Ken, it is possible that the filtering capacitors have simply crapped out from age, and that amp will require replacement...in the meantime, you could try using "Ground Loop Isolators" to see if you are simply having a ground loop.

They sell them at WalMart. If they work, let me know, we have some other sneaky solutions.

i've never had a ground loop isolator work.

I'd run a grounding cable from the deck to the battery, and from the amp to the battery. That'll get rid of a grounding loop.

That combo right there has taken care of whine from the last few systems i've done.

                        If that doesn't work...

                        what Luke said... :)

unless he has bad caps in his amp...then it really won't matter what he does, he will have noise.

I figure it will be easier for him to buy a couple of GLIs, try them and return them after he fixes the REAL problem of shitty grounds.

BTW, the body of a car has far lower resistance than any wire. Seperate grounds front and rear ore just fine, as long as the body grounds are good AND the equipment grounds are up to snuff too.

I still run a deck ground from the amp ground during the install...just saves time later.
