just wondering who here is using just a new headunit and whose using headunit plus an amp? are the amps basically being used to power subs? will a new headunit supply enough power for the average listener, those who dont need to have bass rattling the windows i mean. just curious.

are you looking to power a sub? you have to use an amp to power the sub. and for bass rattling the windows thats more the size + power of your sub.just wondering who here is using just a new headunit and whose using headunit plus an amp? are the amps basically being used to power subs? will a new headunit supply enough power for the average listener, those who dont need to have bass rattling the windows i mean. just curious.
(this is just from my very limited experience with car audio) -
My GFs car has stock premium sound up front with rewired stock crossovers (12db/oct tweeter, mid running fullrange) with a Panasonic deck running an Alpine MRV-F400, with Exile 6.5" coaxials in the rear.
Clarity is excellent, midbass decent, but absolutely no bottom end at all.
She is looking forward to a sub, soon. I am doing a single 10" in a medium ported box, with both port and woofer firing through the ski hole.
Soon, I swear!

i also have an aftermarket head unit and stock premium speakers, but i think it sucks ass... the highs are painful, the lows aren't there. the mids are fine when they aren't stumbling over themselves.Comment

sound system
I'm using a pioneer deh-p390mp headunit, no amp, factory front speakers w/the tweeters (premium ??), and base model rears.just wondering who here is using just a new headunit and whose using headunit plus an amp? are the amps basically being used to power subs? will a new headunit supply enough power for the average listener, those who dont need to have bass rattling the windows i mean. just curious.
I'm satisfied with the preium speakrs, but the base speakers are whimpy.
Over all the sound quality is very good, but the factory speakers are not made to go extremely high.
The rears distort with too much bass, so i fade it to the front a little, fine now for me.
I am pleased with the performance for now, but I would like to upgrade to
some larger components for the mids and highs and add some subs in the
distant futre.
Start with a new head unit and upgrade as wanted (make sure your head unit has enough outputs for future upgrades).Comment
