What are the better speaker brands, and where do I buy them?

That's probably the longest thread title I've ever used.

Anyway, as it says, who is making the quality speakers these days, and what are some good places to buy them. I'm in the early stages of thinking about upgrading to that business CD player from the new BMW's and then replacing my stock components. I'll probably end up using the ADS amp that came with my car to power them.

Focal, JL Audio, Image Dynamics, CDT, ADS, Polk db line to name a few.

Best thing you can do when it comes to speakers is to spend the time going to different local stores and listen to as many speakers as possible.

Make a list of the ones you liked, and we can help you narrow them down if need be.

    my 2 cents.

I have a hint when listening to speakers.
Try to listen to them with the same volume. Meaning if you switch between two speakers, try to adjust the volume so that you're listening to them on the same level. It's hard for a person to decern the difference between better sounding and louder, and you'll always have the power to turn the volume up on the less efficient speaker.

          Diamond Audio.
always make sure the sales guy in the stores is running just deck power on ALL the setups they play for you. sometimes they like to turn a amp on so one speaker sounds better over the other.

I like mine for sure. I have the mid level ones in my E30.

I really like my Exile components.

Will not fit in stock locations, but I fixed that.

This is a very subjective thing. As mentioned, demo as many as you can in person, same music with the same volume level.

Excellent point - some guy might like MB Quarts, but to me they are (were) so sharp it was easier to shove an icepick in your ear & run it around.
