shipped a guy an old school V12 alpine amp

He writes me saying that the amp is totally not like described and he escalates it to a dispute with paypal and wants a full refund. The thing is 5-6 years old, he's going to put it under a cover (well he should for safety), and won't be able to see it!

I don't recall this scratch down the middle being there, and those on the edges are TINY, it could have happened with any install! this guy is being an obnoxious ass.

so this is what I wrote back.

I take it pretty seriously that my reputation lives up to my prior history of not having any problems. Can you tell me why it is such a huge deal that the amplifier has some scratches that allegedly were there before I shipped it to you. If I was in your shoes I would just run the amplifier, I know it works great. I feel like you are trying to use a very small excuse to go-back on our sale. Very minor cosmetic damage according to the pictures, that I do not remember being there when it was shipped. I think it is completely possible that after you received that amplifier, in an effort to put it in the vehicle quickly you might have scratched it and now want a refund for something that was in your control. Paypal's dispute process clarifies that it is for items that vary SIGNIFICANTLY from originally stated. I shipped you a great condition, working amplifier, and what you do from there is all on you. In this case, even if the small blemishes were caused by me, it does not vary SIGNIFICANTLY from described, i.e. broken, not working, missing parts, missing instructions, etc.

I'd look @ the amp & make sure he didn't switch guts on you - you remember your old S.N.#?

It may sound paranoid - but anything is possible. If you have it back then make sure it still works & that it doesn't look like he cracked it open.

The 757 is a great amp. How much do you want for it?
