    Choosing Tweeets now

Ok so I got the HU out of the way (went with the panasonic 7413) but now i want to add the tweets. Just got a pair of pods but dont want to use factory. Currently my car has 6 year old Infinity Kappa 5.25 coax. I thought it would be good to keep it Infinity and get the Kappa tweets, but $120 from Crutchfield!

Does anyone think that is worth it to just keep it Infinity or should I think of another brand.

Also, should i disable the tweeters on my front coaxes when I get the door tweets, and just use them as mids?
    Thanks.

This is going to be a hit or miss. The tweeters you are thinking about purchasing might not sound their best with the COAX inline crossover. You COULD try and disconnect the Coax tweeter (shouldn't be hard at all) and connect the add on tweeter but results are up in the air on how it will sound. Reason is the crossover, the coax crossover (probably a 1st order high pass made out of a single non polar capicitor) was not designed/calculated for the tweeter you are thinking about adding (Unless you find out they are exactly the same (impedence, sensitivity, resonant frequency at the bare minimum).... If you do keep the coax tweeter and the addon tweeter connected, you'll in a way end up running close to 2ohms on each side in the higher freq. range...you amplifier might laugh at it or it might not. Plus you'll end up with lots of highs. They make pots you can add in line, to "dial in" just enough power for the add-on tweeters to bring the sound "up" to the dash level, but not enough for it to be overwhelming.

Easiest thing to do would be to sell the coaxes and buy a set of component speakers with biggest mids you can fit/afford for best front midbass. This way you'll atleast won't have to worry about matching up your tweeters to the midrange/crossover. Keep it simple .

    imho

Keep it simple, man...buy a pair of crossovers from some old installer and add them to the factory tweets...unbelievably good sound, damn near free.

Deck power is just fine, but an amp is better. Get a sub first, use your decks high pass filters, then add a mid/high amp.

so you say keep the factory tweets? Someone told me they were junk. I do have a sub and amp already. Front stage is 4 5.25 infinity Kappa Coax. So I should just add cross overs? Should i undo the tweet parts of the coax's?

I have a pair of 2way (low/high) MB Quart crossovers I'd be happy to let go cheap. Would work well for your need.

                Like... $20 shipped.

Mabank is just south of Dallas, in the middle of Shitsville.

If Jordo has a set of crossovers for $20, do it.

The stock tweet is no slouch, but the stock crossover is a pile of shit. In fact, if I were to choose between your Kappa mid and a nice condition stock mid, I would use the stock.

Your Kappa tweeter is hella bright...I believe you can remove it from the midrange by removing the screw under the paper label on the back of the mid.

where is the stock crossover? Do you mean for me to take out the tweet form the center of the coax and let that be the mid? I was just going to unplug the tweet part and plug in the door tweets? Is my thinking backwards here?

Stock crossover is built into the factory premium sound 5.25 speaker. A coil of wire around the magnet and a capacitor to the tweeter.

He doesn't have stock speakers. His infinity coax crossovers are I believe "inline" type.
