    Dimming deck lights

Hey, I have a little problem with my stereo setup.

I currently have some infinity reference 5.25" coaxials for my front and rear, and the stock door tweeters, all receiving power from the deck, a Blaupunkt Honolulu that does 40x4 (I think). I also have a subwoofer/amp which is the 12" Kicker Comp VR sub and a Rockford Fosgate Punch 401s amp. The 401s puts out a nice 400w to my sub.

Problem I've been having is when my music is hitting, the Blaupunkt lights dim. The face where it displays the time and stuff is where you would notice it the most. I can turn my amp up to the highest on the remote and the lights wont dim, so that rules out the sub/amp combination. I think it's the coaxials because when I turn down the bass, and then turn up the volume, the problem goes away. HOWEVER, I basically lose my mids, so I'm stuck with the loud tweeters and boomy bass.

How could I possibly fix this?
I want to be able to turn my stereo up loud at night, and not have to deal with the dimming deck.

    TIA

    My deck doesn't dim.

My interior lights and headlights do.

    Sold it.

If your deck is dimming like that, it is not getting enough power. You most likely have it connected to the itty bitty stock stereo 12v+

Run a new wire of at least 16ga off the battery post in the engine back, directly to the stereo. Put a appropriate fuse inline. Your dimming problems will be done.

Thanks Jordan, I had an idea that I would probably have to run a new line.

I have some 16ga wire somewhere in this house, and an appropriate fuse/holder for it as well. Just gotta find it. :)

My other plan would have been to get a 4 channel amp and just feed the speakers with that. Even though it would sound better, I'm just looking for an easy cheap way to get rid of the dimming.

You could wire a capacitor inline with your powerwire to the deck. But just replacing the wire would probably be eaiser.

Yeah like those shock caps that are used with dudes running 4 12" subs or some shit.

Spencer, why don't you pick up some extension cable from Home Depot and use it?

LOL, put a 1 farad cap inline with the power to the deck.

PS if anybody wants a 1/2 farad Rockford Fosgate capacitor great condition, PM me.

                Specer,
Just get some 16ga wire and run a new power cable to the deck.
