    Amp cutting out

What would cause an amplifier to cut out after about 5 minutes of use, and then turn on randomly for no more than a minute? I blew an amp a few days ago, and picked up this amp from my friend, but I'm having this problem. It's a lot less power than the older amp (250 vs. 750), could that be my problem?

Provide some more detail so we can answer your question.

    What amp...brand and model number

    What speakers...brand and model number

    How is it wired?

Likely as not it is overheating from an improper impedance load, or other installation issues. Wattage is meaningless on whether or not it overheats.
