OK, so first, understand how the thing works.

Brown is ground, white is "trigger" and red is constant power.

Your Alpine has a blue wire that makes +12V when in "tuner" mode, that runs the white wire.

Grab a testlight, make sure the red wire has power and that the white wire has 12V when the radio is on. If no workie still, you have a bad antenna.

Rewinding the mast into the antenna is not that big of a deal...basically, you turn on the radio, let it wind all the way "out", then turn it off and feed the mast in while the antenna motor is running.

    HTH,
    Luke

      thanks for the reply...

the black wire that screws in to the antenna...what is it? it was very similar to a coax connection, w/ a pin on the antenna that fit into a "pocket" on the black wire....and i plum yanked that pocket out, so theres nothing for that pin to to connect to.

Oh shit...that is the signal connection.

You will likely be able to find another end in another E30.

I used to be able to get an adapter from "Hirschman" to standard Motorola, but have not seen them in 10 years or more.
