    Subs or not..

    Hello there

I have the Pioneer DEH-P2900MP head unit. I also have two 10inch subs in a box. I also have a kinda old kenwood amp. I was wondering if I could just hook up the subs to the head unit directly without an amp and still have good bass. Im not going for SUPER LOUD deep bass, im looking for stylish bass, not extremely loud but you know its there.

So the question is could I just hook up the subs directly to the head unit and expect good decent clean power without using my amp? A friend of mine told me that some head units have pretty much a built in amp...?
And! If I could hook the subs up directly, how would I go on in doing this?

    Thanks!
    -Jon

Jon, headunit does not have anywhere near the power needed for a sub. Maybe if you had a 6", but normally a sub is driven by it's own amplifier.

All head units have built in amps, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect your 2way/3way speakers to them, but subs need more power since they only play lower notes. Good headunit might give you about 20-25 watts per channel of clean power, some even less.

I think most will be less than 25 watts. realistically, probably along the lines of 10-15 watts rms.

I'd just use your amp. Fuse holders are cheap, and running rca's isn't that bad.

      meh.

If you're not excited, you could also not do anything at all!

A decent head unit will actually give out like 15w tops. And there are 4 outs on your head unit for speakers, how would you wire it? If you hook it up through a pre-out you will likely get no sound. The pre-outs that are used for wiring subs are called that because they are just a signal line that is "pre-amplifier".

Thanks for all the input guys
that what I was looking for.

          I apprecaite it!!

Im pretty sure the amp is going in now
Now is it hard to install an amp?
I have stereo installing experience but nothing concerning an amp with subs...

the amp is pretty simple to hook up
all u got to do is hook up rca's from radio to amp and ground wire and hot wire (12 Volt + battery) and remote wire from radio and you r good remember to adjust amp setting.

Dude, the battery is in the trunk. We've got it the easiest of pretty much all car owners with regards to wiring. Those of us who own BMWs also get the perk of not having to buy long runs of expensive wiring to get an external amp in.

In a perfect world, our trunks wouldn't be so damned airtight and our factory stereo wiring wouldn't require all new wires. I guess it's a small price to pay for the ease of what you're looking to do.
