    Pioneer AVIC-N2? Read This

OK, so I have a Pioneer AVIC N2. The 5 year old maps piss me off...as does Pioneer, who told us industry insiders that new maps would be free updates...yeah right.

However, the whole idea of not being able to change destinations or do a location search while moving REALLY pissed me off, so I searched around and found a hack.

Here is the deal: If you connect the two points on the circuit board, it will allow changing destinations while moving. So, flip the deck over onto its back. Find the little silver label:

Now peel off the silver label and set it aside. You will see 2 tiny solder points, like this, labeled "R197":

Take a thin wire and separate a few strands. Apply solder to them so they are easier to work with:

    Now with solder:

Now CAREFULLY apply this bit of wire to the board and solder it in, like this:

This gory mess is what came out...possibly the ugliest solder joint in my life, but I was not willing to temp fate and try to fix it:

After a quick reinstall, I now have the ability to use my damn Nav deck how I want to.

Oh yeah, and about that map software? I have never ever heard of the pirate bay, nor did I ask my kid how to torrent...

Why not just bridge the gap with solder instead of using a wire?

Probably could have with a different iron. I did not want to keep much heat in there as the damn deck is worth like $800 used.

I suppose the thing could play movies while driving, too. I still have not even played a movie at all, much less while driving.

Now if I could figure out how to make it play .WMA or at least MP3 DVDs, or have an ipod interface worth a shit!

does this trick work with the N1 as well? And have you located the new maps? I am dieing to find something more modern than the ones that came with my N1.

Also any luck on that Exile amp? is there like a 1 year manufactures warranty?
Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Oh shit! I totally forgot about the burned out bulb.

Soon as I get back from lunch, I will take one apart and check it out.

And yes, there is a warranty, but I see no reason to ship the damn thing across the US twice for a light bulb or LED! I should be able to mail you a part to swap out with no problem.

OK, so on your maps, here is the deal: Your N1 can use the maps I found. The problem is that the N1 will flash to "New US Safety Spec", meaning you will NOT be able to change any navigation settings or do any kind of POI searches (or watch video) while the car is moving over 5 MPH.

              Thanks, legal eagles!

This 5 MPH is calculated by the GPS input, so if you were to put a switch on your antenna it would work. There is much discussion on other forums about what or how to fix this, but no concrete solutions yet.
