    Help with cigarette lighter wiring

Okay well I don't have the wiring set up because im not sure what connects to where.

I think that the brown wire should be connected first, granted that it is the GROUND wire. The thing is that, there are THREE loose wires, and the cig lighter only needs two connected to it. Maybe the other wire explains why my power windows no longer work. I've also heard that the instrument panel and cig lighter wiring are always HOT meaning that they can be easily short circuited? another thing is that none of my cluster panels illuminate amber, except for the reserve gas light

I seen some you guys on here completely tear apart your E30s, so maybe one of you could shed some light on my problem.

That black cylindrical object is actually a light socket to illuminate the ashtray and cig lighter. The two heavy gauge wires are all you need to connect. IIRC, there is a cavity in the ashtray surround that the light socket sits in.

Okay well I tryed to plug them in accordingly to their size and the cig lighter still dose not work. Also I'm afraid i might have shorted something. My cluster panel no longer illuminates amber when I pull the switch to light them up.

And when I do pull the light switch, for some reason my OBC says that my license plate & brakes lights are faulty. but i checked them on the outside of my car and they function correctly.

Make sure that brown is on the outside prong on the cig lighter and the red and yellow on the inside prong.
Turn your light switch left and right while pulled out one click and see what happens.
Ignition needs to be set to the "On" position for the cig lighter to work.
          Check your fuses.

cigarette lighter is always hot. Have one of the plug-in type air purifiers in mine and it is constantly on. Or use it to charge my cell phone when I'm inside at work.

                Hey man...go buy a TESTLIGHT!

If you own an E30, you need to own a testlight.

                $5 special is just fine.

MotherF*ck me.. I broke the end piece on light socket wire(accident when pulling carpet. I was noobish and impatient!) I can't find the other wires for the lighter.. Maybe pull a section of carpet out and look for them or what?
