Just curious as to why diving board owners are interested in this mod if they don't have the sport valence. Diving board fog lights have to be one of the ugliest things stuck on the car, and aren't terribly useful by this age usually since they are usually bent out of alignment, broken from a rockchip, or sandblasted to a nice frosted lens look, scattering light everywhere.

As far as someone buying new ones, just how often do you drive in fog anyway.

Mod makes sense on facelift cars, since those foglights are aesthetically pleasing.

If more light on the road is your reason for wanting foglights on sans fog, yank them off and find a nice set of driving lights. You'll be much happer.

Frankly, it is useless, as if its foggy you want low beams anyway. However, despite how i feel on the matter I did answer the same question in another thread for someone who was a much bigger jackass, so ill link the answer here. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...1&postcount=26

          thanks...
          and if u must know--
this is for my track car ...
my aux fan is wired to my driver side fog lamp wiring -- i've dashed away my fog lamps many moons ago and i run without the stock 'clutch fan'.. but because i've never gotten around to correcting it, i turn the aux fan on with the fog lamp switch, but the headlights must be on -- i just wanted to keep the stock fog lamp switch and use it to turn on the aux fan at my convenience ...
u jump to too many conclusions-- but u were nice enough to post a remedy..

See that? good stuff. DB cars are different than plastic cars as most fog light mods do not work, and I can see that in your situation, separate control is a large plus. I ask because the write up I linked to was so someone could show off his pep-boys fogs he stuck on the bumper. I felt kinda guilty encouraging rice.

            Glad it helped you out!

There is a damn good reason to have Fog lights without headlights.... FOG.

But this is usually wired with the parking light circut. Having the low beams on in the fog defeats the purpose of Fog lights... which is to cut under the fog and prevent the light reflection off the fog from glaring into the driver's eyes. That is why fog lights are positioned low below the bumper. I don't know about e30's but most euro headlight fog / light switches allow fog lights on with only parking lights.

Having your fog lights on all the time is also a problem... as it tosses extra light out in front of the low beams... Making the foreground too bright.... forcing your eyes to adjust which in turn makes distant objects appear darker. (Similar to driving with the cabin lights on. ) This is why BMWs have red instrument lights. Red light doesn't cause your eye to adjust (irises to contract)

Automotive lighting isn't about more light or "whiter light", its about the right light in the right place for the driving conditions.

Arcane DOT laws is why we're stuck with our low beams on w/FOGS.... and why DOT spec lights suck. See Daniel Stern lighting for more info.

Hey Slick, another way of using your foglight switch to control your fan (with IGN on, too) is to run the wires from the fan switch (on the radiator) into the cockpit and wire them to the switch.

That is how mine is set up. It rocks!
