amp, subs recomendations

anyone got any amp/sub reconmendations? help a audio-retarded guy out.. im really just lookin for a 10" to increase the bass sound while not so much looking for rattleing of my car..

so anyone think the Kicker Comp VT Subwoofer 10" sub is nice if i pair it with Kicker ZX.5 5-Channel Amplifier? i want to just build my own ported box and run a tube into the back of my 325es between the 2 current speakers.. any thoughts?

Josh, I personally think Kicker is crap. Overpriced, poor sound quality, noisy and un-reliable, I just fucking hate Kicker amps. Shitty EQ, shitty crossover slopes, typical shitty made-in-China crap.

Kicker subs are on my personal hate list too. The moving mass of their 10" subs is higher than several 12" I can think of, the high Q makes for boomy bass in a ported box, with piss poor clarity.

Plus, all of their ultra "Attitude" and "Lifestyle" bullshit ("Living Loud"? Give me a fucking break!) just sickens me. Even Fosgate has classier advertising than Kicker...and that is tacky enough. Kicker has one of the highest profit margins of any major manufacturer, which should tell you something about their product...built in "discount", anyone?

So, before you guys jump my ass for saying what I said, you have to remember you asked for opinions. I am sure bunches of you have a "buddy" who has a "great sounding system" using all Kicker...well, have you heard my car? If you haven't, save your fingers. I assure you that no matter how good your "buddies" system sounds, it would sound better if all of the Kicker crap was pulled and any one of a dozen brands I can think of were installed in its place.

yeahh my only real reasoning for considering kicker stuff is one of my buddies can get 75% off all kicker gear.. so a setup that normally would cost 700 is only gonna cost me 175-200.. i still havent made any decisions.. but thankyou for the feedback luke. always good to get advice from those who know what they are talking about.

Joshua, that is the kind of shit I am talking about...just because it has a $700 price tag does NOT mean it is worth $700...especially when comparable gear from another manufacturer is half that price.

So there is the big bitch...Kicker (and JL, Eclipse, Fosgate and a few others) has always offered a substandard product at ridiculous profit margins, allowing salespeople of offer a HUGE discount (Dude, I can get this for you at HALF PRICE, like you are so fucking special, right?) so everyone gets all pumped up about the "bitchin' deal" their "buddy at the stereo store" got them...but in fact, they got a Korean made amp or woofer at normal retail prices.

In the meantime, can your buddy get you deals on other brands? Post them up!

well he can only get his employee discount of 75% off of kicker and mtx ( i beleive) so my selection is not very big of what to get.. im gonna go with the kicker stuff and if it sucks i can just resell i guess.. unless something else comes up.

If he can get MTX, decide what pieces you want and I can check prices to see if it is in fact a good deal. I am an MTX dealer, but I get shit for pricing...since I don't buy truckloads of stuff.

I can cut you a hell of a deal on Exile if you want top of the line product. It really is the best chinese made stuff I have ever seen. Plus, it is really pretty...
