pretty handy, work in the construction field so i got some know-how, but does anyone have a method to construct pods for 6.5" speakers to fit in the doors where the map pockets are, i saw a couple pictures of some nice ones, but would like to know a little more on how to fabricate these. ie, specs, what materials, and maybe a basic methodology, i am going to have a lot of free time and the car wont really be driven so i can even take the door off for awhile if need be. or if anyone is selling any that are already made for a good price lemme know as well.

door pods for 6.5's

Door pods are going to be a bit of work. If I were building a set, I would start off with a pair of door I could hack up the handles/panels on with no regard to anything.
My question is this: Why door pods?
I recently did a set of Polk "MOMO" 6.5" components in the doors of a late model. They are FUCKING ENORMOUS, and I did fairly significant mods to the door, such as moving the window out about 1/4" and using a 1/4" spacer between the door panel and the door...so no spacer is visible.
They do fit perfectly, they sound great and the nearly look like they belong.
If you are just concerned with "Bitchin Door Pods" (TM LFisher, 2008) by all means, have at it. If SQ or better location than blasting at your ankles is the goal, take your door apart and look.

im down for doing whatever is going to sound better, but i'm not really up for moving the window or any door internals, i just want something that sounds great, but the 6.5's i already have in the stock location just was a huge modifying job which i kinda fucked up for any future use except covering them with unmodified speaker panels there. if there is another option without any in door hacking up im all ears.1991 318is --- currently not road worthy

I see what you mean about the hackery. It is not that bad, but not exactly pretty either. Bummer about cracking the dash. Kind of a PITA to swap out.
I just hate the damn underdash location in general...you just can't hear the damn things.
Plus the airspace is so tiny it is always piss poor midbass...oh well.
What model Focals are those? I needed more space to get those Momos in, but seriously, they are huge...although, Focals are typically big too.

hey luke, what would you suggest i do then? i can send you some pictures of the hackery in my kick panels, and you said if i made door pods they wouldnt sound that great, what if i just made a speaker pod in the middle of the door? cut the door panel out and mounted it directly to the metal frame and tried to dress it up to look halfway decent, would that be better?1991 318is --- currently not road worthy

glove box...
F da glove box.... Did you ever put gloves in the glove box??? Glove box opens 3/4 of the way. Had to remount hood release too. Not a big deal... Luke --not sure of the model of focals. But I like them. About 5 years old. The mid range vocals are the smoothest I've ever heard. Lo-mids pretty good too. I do make a cut at 10K though. That's why I think the preamp helps out a ton.. So much range in music mixes today. Gives you a chance to make small tweeks on the fly to satisfy your ears. Would luv to hear one of your sub boxes someday..
