I was running a 15" Adire Audio Brahma. I had it running off an MTX 81000d which was modded to run at 1 ohms and push out about 1800 watts rms. I had the box tuned to 28 hz. That was an extremely loud set up. I broke two of the latches on my e30 trunk. I ended up having to weld the latch together. I could bounce quarters on my roof.
But, I ended up having to sell my sub and amp because I wanted a new drum set.

The next time I get some setup I think I am going to get just one 10 or 12 RE. Probably an SE or SX. Did you see that MT? That think looks goddamn badass. I bet the 18" MT is sooo loud.

there is saw dust everywhere in this pic b/c i had just built the box

tight, im thinking about running 2 RE 8's in the rear deck in where the rear speakers are. either that or porting something through the deck there. was lookin at an SX or a powerbass xtreme sub. id like to run the 8's though to cut down on weight + costs. just gotta see how hard it would be to get em into the deck.

You'll have trouble dropping 8"s into the rear deck unless you build some sort of spacer ring for it. There are thin bars right below the rear deck for the trunk-lid mechanism.

Get some illusion audio 8"s and put them in the front. They'll fit in really small pods/boxes because the magnet for the voice coil is in front of the cone.

have u ever used these illusion audio subs? Do you know how they would compare to like a Image Dynamics ID8V.2?

I've never used them, but I've heard good things. They make two different models of their speakers. One uses a fiberglass cone and is quite expensive (1-200 for each speaker), and they also make a more affordable model line too (50-100 per speaker). They aren't really designed to be used for mid-bass speakers (75-250Hz) rather than subwoofers. If you want powerful bass out of the 8s, I'd go with the IDs.

If you want to use your rear deck for some subs I would suggest getting a pair of Tang Band 6 1/2 subs. They are cheap, last time I saw some they were like $40. I'm not sure where to get them but you can search or go to www.caraudioforum.com and they will help you.

I would get this one. http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/1208_03/w6-1139sc.asp

It has 11.5 mm of X-Max which is more excursion than many of the top brand 10s or 12s. They are rated at 60rms each but you could put about 80 on them and they get very loud for just a 6 1/2. Wattage doesn't always mean louder, a sub with a high xmax will be able to push more air which means more sound. They will save you some weight and space.

Anyways, I've been thinking about a game plan for my stereo for a while now, and I think I've finally decided...

christophbmw has this setup and I hope he doesn't mine me using it. I like it a lot, and it's actually what I sort of had in mind in the first place, so thanks to him.

OK, right now, my Alpine CDA-9807 deck is installed into the family Acura because I used to drive that around before the E30. In the first step, I'll get that uninstalled from the Acura. I also bought a Black Widow Alarm from Visions for $58.00 so I'll be installing that as well in the process.

Secondly, I will take my Alpine deck, the Black Widow Alarm, and purchase my first 2 5 1/4" Alpine Type-R component speakers for the front and hopefully can afford to purchase the Alpine MRP-240 4-channel amp to power the speakers for now.

*QUESTION* So for SQ, what do people usually do with the rear speakers if they usually only use the front speakers? Do they just scrap them? (Sorry, I'm not very experienced with this stuff)

Thirdly, I will go get the Alpine 10" Type-R sub, Alpine MRP-350 mono amp and enclosure.

Lastly, I will go and do something about the rear speakers (whatever you guys recommend I should do with those) and then I should be good for now :)

The reason why I'm doing the speakers first is I'd rather have better speakers without the sub and amp for the first while, and then afterwards when I save up the money, I can add the sub to the system.

If you guys have any suggestions, let me know please, thanks :)

                  - Chad

Same components I have, nice. You'll love 'em.

Leave them in, and use the deck's fader to set them the way you like. You may not like them in at all, but for now leave them and play around. Leave yourself the option, basically.

Heh, same as my E46 I see. Great stuff.

You'd honestly be surprised how well the stock premium speakers sound matched to a single sub. I highly recommend (and I'm sure others will too) that if you're only going to do one out the two (components or sub) then do the sub first. I went that route with my car, and I was extremely happy. ;)

OK cool, I trust your experience :) I'll do that instead, thanks man.
